Form Blazing Price Drop! Voltron game now just $1

One of the better franchise tie-in apps that I’ve seen in a while- especially for those of us who grew up watching the show- the Voltron game has dropped from its original $4 price to just $.99. With both planar-platforming and 1v1 fighting levels and huge amounts of audio and video (and large helpings of plot) straight from the classic show, I generally think that it was worth the $4 that they charged originally, but it’s an absolute steal at just a dollar. There’s no indication as to whether it’s a temporary or a permanent price drop, but it’s probably best to grab it now just to be sure.

Get Tastebud for just $1, or win a copy free from us!

My App of the Week last week, the rather cool and useful ‘upside-down recipe book’ app Tastebud, dropped in price this last week to just $1 from its original $5 price, making it an even better value and a great addition to anyone’s arsenal of cooking apps.

The developers of Tastebud were also nice enough to provide us with a promo code for the app for us to give away to our listeners, so here’s where being loyal Appcast Now! followers can pay off for you! Just send us a tweet with two or three ingredients that you have in your fridge (or that you just like to cook with), and we’ll use Tastebud to look up recipes using them. Whoever’s ingredients yield the recipe that I think sounds the tastiest will get the promo code! So, go check your fridges and send us those ingredients!

Anime Network Mobile App now Free

The previously pricey Anime Network Mobile app (priced at $6.99) is now Free. I’m not sure if this means you’ll get to browse and have to pick up the subscription fee (likely), but at least now you can check out what is available and how the app looks and feels.

Lion Pride - Free today only

A great line-drawing strategy game, Lion Pride, is free for today only. We featured it as a Notable App a few months back. Well, there’s no reason to avoid it now. Check it out for a unique twist!

BYITNW! Vanity Plate free for this week

Vanity Plate, an app to do a quick check of whether a vanity license plate you’re interested in is available or taken- is free for this week only. The good: it’s a rather nice-looking and simple-to-use app. The bad? You can only search a handful of states at present. But more will hopefully be added later- so if your state isn’t on the list (mine currently isn’t…) grab it now for free so you don’t have to pay for it when the new states are added!

Chronicles of Inotia: Legend of Feanor on sale for $.99

The original Chronicles of Inotia RPG is now on sale for $.99 in the App Store. Though I’m solidly of the mind that the sequel (presently $6) is FAR superior to the original offering, Chronicles of Inotia: Legend of Feanor is still a rather good RPG-style game for the iPhone and a solid deal at just a dollar.

NewsRack (formerly NewsStand) available again

In this week’s podcast we mentioned that our favorite RSS reader, NewsStand, had been pulled from the App Store and forced to change its name due to a copyright infringement complaint against them (probably from NewsStand.com, which I’d never even heard of until I did a quick search to see what might have caused this…). At the time of recording it was still not available in the App Store but has since finally made it through the update process and is now back, so those interested in checking it out (and we do highly recomment it) can now find it under its new name: NewsRack.

Turn the Tables- get Tower Attack for Free

Tower Attack, an interesting little variant on the usual Tower Defense game, is now free for an indeterminate amount of time. In this game, YOU control the creeps and have to plot their paths and strategies to get one particular creep to the exit past a host of towers. It’s not the best TD-type game out there for certain, but is a nice change of pace and, at least for now, it’s free!

Buy iPhone Apps (and other stuff), help charities in Haiti

All the proceeds from the sales today (January 20th) of the iPhone apps listed on the Indie+Relief page today will be going to the listed organizations (which include Doctors Without Borders and the Red Cross) to assist with their efforts in the aftermath of the natural disaster in Haiti. There’s a number of very well-known and good apps there like BirdFeed, Where To?, and no shortage of other utilities, games, and fun software. There’s also plenty of Mac software including very useful utilities like Default Folder X, Delicious Library, and Xslimmer and even some hardware like the rather cool TwelveSouth BassJump USB-Powered Subwoofer.

It’s an easy way to both get some really useful and fun software for your iPhone and Mac and help out in at least some small way with the relief efforts in Haiti.

Beer Battery free-as-in-beer for a few days

I’m generally not the most keen on battery-level apps, and as many people know I also don’t drink- so you’d think a beer-themed battery-level app wouldn’t be something I’ve be posting about. However, the recently released and now on sale for free app Beer Battery shows enough creativity and style that I think it’s worth pointing out to you Appcast Now’ers to grab while it’s free. Now if they’d make a Coke Battery (or given my tastes, a Diet Dr. Pepper Battery) app along the same lines, I’d be really enthusiastic about it!
